MAN WITH A LOTUS TATTOO
This painting started with the head but I had no idea what background pattern I wanted to add. I just drew what came into my head and gradually it suggested to me a sort of fresco wall-painting effect. I softened the background with chalky white washes and the effect became much lighter and more colourful than some of the other paintings in this series.
