One aspect of historic interiors that interests me as a painter is the use of artificial light. Often chandeliers pose problems. Illuminated bulbs and candles emit a warm light, reflected light on glass droplets is often cold. The metal structure of the chandelier is dark yet all the reflected light is brighter be it warm or cold. The structure is difficult to understand and to unravel, none of which is apparent when we are in the room, chandeliers are the elephant in the room yet we pay them very little attention. They are just there.
